鳴門教育大学院グローバル教育コース2年の谷川です。2023年2月に鳴門教育大学令和4年度グローバル教員養成プログラムの教育分野のJICA技術協力プロジェクト視察〈モザンビーク共和国〉に参加しました。

小学生の夏休みの時に、南アフリカのアパルトヘイト時代について書かれた「ヨハネスブルクへの旅」という本を読んでからずっと、日本から遠く離れたアフリカに行って、私自身の目で現地の様子を見てみたいと望んでいました。今回、コロナ禍にも関わらず大学の関係者の方々と先生方のご尽力のもと、念願の夢を叶えることができました。

現地では、JICAが実施する算数の教科書開発の視察や、現地の小学校・中学校に訪問し、日本の文化紹介の授業などをさせていただきました。また、現地の教育大学との学生とも交流し、同じ教員志望者として、教員の現状について語りあうことができました。その中で最も衝撃を受けたのは、モザンビークの教員大学の学生に「あなたの夢は何？」と聞かれ、教員になることだと伝えると、「それだけなの？」と言われたことです。モザンビークの学生たちは、教師になること以外にも様々なことにチャレンジしようとしている様子でした。現地の学生たちの教員になることに対するモチベーションの高さや彼らの持つエネルギーに圧倒され、私自身も改めて自己を見つめ直すことができ、今後さらに精進していきたいと思いました。

雨季の影響で洪水や断水など自然災害が多発するという、大変な状況だったにも関わらず、現地でサポートしてくださったモザンビークの方々に大変感謝しております。短い滞在期間でしたが、モザンビーク人の人柄も食事もアフリカ布にも魅了され、大好きな国の１つになりました。また、今後色々なアフリカの国へ行ってみたいです！

I am Kana, a second-year student of the Global Education Course at Naruto University of Education. In February 2023 I visited the Republic of Mozambique as the Global Teacher Training Program at Naruto University of Education.

Ever since I read a book titled “Journey to Johannesburg” about the apartheid era in South Africa during my summer vacation when I was an elementary school student, I have wanted to visit Africa, far away from Japan, and see the situation there with my own eyes. Despite the difficult situation, I was able to fulfill my long-held dream thanks to the efforts of university officials and professors.

While I was there, I had an opportunity to observe JICA’s development of math textbooks and visit local elementary and senior high schools to give classes introducing Japanese culture. I also interacted with students from Mozambique University of Education. We were able to discuss the current state of the teaching profession as fellow aspiring teachers. What struck me the most was when a university student asked me, “What is your dream? When I told him that my dream was to become a teacher, he said, “Is that all you want?”. The Mozambican students seemed to be trying many other things besides becoming teachers. I was overwhelmed by the high motivation of the Mozambiquan university students to become teachers and the energy they possess, and I was able to take a fresh look at myself and want to work even harder in the future.

I am very grateful to the people of Mozambique for their support despite the difficult conditions caused by the rainy season. Although my stay in Mozambique was short, I was fascinated by the Mozambican people’s character, food, and traditional cloths. It has become one of my favorite countries. I would like to visit many other African countries in the future!
